The Belarusian player concluded the season with an impressive twenty-three to three Grand Slam win-loss record. The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season. The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles championship. A Year of Dominance Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final. The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year. This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Achievements Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in earnings. She received almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists. Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level". Additional WTA Award Recipients Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season. Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot. Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair. Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches. Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
