People have assembled throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed official commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the plan.

A senior delegate knowledgeable about the talks revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The swap of the hostages still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose brother survived the attack on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until each abducted person return none of us will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to express their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement needed for the hostages to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now consistently show that about the majority of the population desire the conflict to conclude in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the dawn of that day in the western district, Rimal and Nasr areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the night falls, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, especially my youngest child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we look at the updates to see developments. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will return to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had accepted the remains of six people by the afternoon, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city said additional dead people had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the south, health workers said.

The region's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
