Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just half a year following instigating derogatory chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career with Leeds was ended amicably this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager

Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
