Ex UK Serviceman Accused of Murdering Kenya Female Appears in Court

An individual has shown up before a judge as deportation processes started in the case of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a woman of Kenyan origin who was found dead near a British forces camp in the year 2012.

Purkiss, 38 years old, who is originally from Greater Manchester, showed up in Westminster magistrates court on the last Friday, and told the court he intended to contest the deportation. It is understood that he was taken into custody on Thursday night.

An arrest warrant for the suspect was released by a Nairobi court in September. Legal prosecutors informed the Kenyan judiciary that the individual had been accused of a single count, of killing, and that the Kenyan authorities would request his deportation to answer to accusations.

The defendant served formerly as a army medic with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the infantry regiment for the English northwest, including on missions to Afghanistan.

Wanjiru, 21 years old, a beautician who had a infant daughter, went missing after a night on the town, and her remains was found after two months in the grounds of the accommodation where she had previously spotted.

Nobody had earlier been detained or indicted in association with her death. His detention was the result of a recent detective probe, which was initiated after a report in the year 2021 by the Sunday Times, in which the publication reached out to several serving and ex-military personnel in the unit.

The investigation has been headed by detectives in Kenya, which, under a mutual defense pact, maintains prosecutorial power in the legal case.
